Job DescriptionThis role will oversee Medicinal Chemistry activities at the Research Center in Bangalore, India. The selected individual will build the group through recruiting talented staff with diverse skill sets, equipping the laboratories, providing adequate training and direction, and developing joint strategic objectives with other functional area Site Heads. The group will eventually comprise approximately sixty to one hundred and twenty scientists with skills in synthesis of medicinally active compounds based on the principles of organic synthesis and reaction mechanisms, innovative designs of target structures based on the fundamental understanding of the drug target mechanism, structure activity and structure toxicity relationships as part of the lead development and lead optimization. Responsibilities: • Oversight of daily operations supporting on site Medicinal Chemistry research activities. • Evaluating program scientific progress and taking appropriate actions to achieve success. • Developing and maintaining strong productive working relationships with Site Leaders and other key personnel. • Developing and training staff proficiencies and capabilities. • With US program leaders, jointly develop and maintain an efficient means to provide Research Support services for other company sites as appropriate.
Skill RequiredRequirements: • Ph.D. or equivalent in Organic chemistry and or Medicinal chemistry. • 10 to 15 years of hands on experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams involved in the selection of preclinical lead candidates in MNC pharmaceutical industry. • Credentials must include strong publication and patents record, effective interpersonal and communication skills, full understanding of drug discovery path from lead identification to clinical candidate selection and nomination, full understanding and appreciation of pharmacology, metabolism, pharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics, toxicology, necessary for the lead optimization process. • A strong understanding of drug discovery and solid record of repeated success in discovery programs is essential. • Verbal and written communication skills must be outstanding. Skills: • Innovative, creative and strategic thinking. • Strong leadership skills and persuasive negotiating abilities. • Derives satisfaction from exceeding collaborators expectations and achievement of jointly held goals. • Strong problem solving skills. • Awareness of and sensitivity to ethnic differences across international collaborations.
